Lightening and Thunderstorms Strike Bay Area

Lightening and thunderstorms hit across Bay Area on Monday afternoon. Forecasters have observed at least 1000 lightning strikes in the Bay Area.

All this started with strong winds gusts that roared early in the morning, later the day the temperature climbed to 90 degrees. Then rain came followed by thunderstorms and lightnings.

The National Weather Service warned of 30mph wind gusts and dime-size hail is expected in some parts. Officials said that cloud-to-ground lightning was occurring so advised people to stay in shelters only.

Around 8700 customers across the region were suffering without the power on Monday according to PG&E. more than half of the outrages were in East Bay and nearly 3000 were on the peninsula.

Lightning even caused at 16 flights destined for San Francisco were diverted to Mineta San Jose International Airport.
