4 killed in a small plane crash

A small plane crashed in the Riverside neighborhood, igniting a devastating fire on Monday afternoon (27th Feb) killing four people and injuring another two.

At around 4:45 p.m. the Riverside Fire Department responded of a plane crash at Central Avenue and Streeter Avenue

The plane ‘Cessna 310’ crashed under ‘unknown circumstances’ about half-mile northeast of the Riverside Municipal Airport, landing on two homes.

"It was like a loud boom," Jose Bautsta a witness from the incident.

Daniel Hernandez lives in the neighborhood, described the sounds of the crash as a “very loud explosion.” He said that he could feel the heat on his face as fumed entered his room.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration the plane had departed from Riverside for San Jose.

According to Riverside City Fire Chief Michael Moore, a husband, wife and their three children were on board, who were returning to San Jose after attending a cheerleading conference at Disneyland.

Four of the five passengers were killed in the crash and the fifth passenger, one of the children was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Moore said “Upon impact, the plane pretty much split apart." The Riverside City Fire said “Two people in a neighboring home were pulled out”

Ana Duran lives just on the other side of where the plane crashed. She said that everyone in the neighborhood just ran to see what they could do to help.

Duran said that it sounded like a bomb and she heard people screaming and yelling.

Erensto Torres a witness said that he pulled a woman from the flames.

Angelina Caballero lives across the street from where the plane crashed, said that she saw a woman climbing out of the wreckage.

Elizabeth Espinosa heard "zoom, big crash and boom." When, she was looking out of her window.

"The ground shook. We were all in shock," she said.

Angelina Caballero lives across the street, she heard a loud explosion. And described the heat like when you open the oven.

"My house shook," she said. Her daughter said, "There's a fire. There's a fire across the street. The heat, it's awful. It's awful. Right away, boom and the flames."

Kimberly Wilmott heard a plane “super low” that sounded like a jet. She said "It was very loud," she said. "I could see all the smoke and the helicopters."
"I've never seen it like this."

Hours after the incident rescue team were still searching for anywhere from three to five people who may have been inside the homes, Moore said.
