According to the Oakland Police Department, two carjacking suspects were arrested in Oakland on Thursday (February 2) after a chase, which led them to crash the stolen vehicle on a Highway 13.

Police said the carjacking suspects overturned the vehicle on the Broadway Terrace onramp to Highway 13, while it was being pursued. They said, a man and woman fled the car, but were taken into custody after a brief search was conducted.

The pursuit began after the Oakland police officer responded to the 5100 block of Shafter Avenue on a report about a carjacking at 4:35 p.m. When the officer arrived to the incident area, they spoke with the victim and got a brief description of the vehicle which was taken.

The family of the victim said that one of the suspects pulled a gun on the man, while he was unloading groceries from his vehicle.

Police said after 10 minutes, officers spotted the vehicle in the 4800 block of Telegraph Avenue. They warned the driver and tried to pull over the vehicle, but the driver did not comply, which promoted the chase.

When the car crashed it appeared if the car took out a tree on the shoulder of the roadway and the police found a gun inside the vehicle.

A perimeter was established around the area of the 5800 block of Pinewood Road by the police and CHP officers. Then police made a verbal contact with the suspects and gave them commands to surrender.

Both of them surrendered and were safely taken into custody without any further incident.

Demertio Lozares a police spokesperson said that they called in K-9, but officer located the suspects and made them surrender.

Police said both the suspects were found hiding underneath a deck Neighbors were a little shaken up by the heavy police presence.

"This is very disturbing for sure," resident Maya Hiersoux said. "You never see this many cops here; you never want to see this many."
No injuries were reported.
