People protest at Google on Immigration ban

More than Hundred employees of Google gathered at the company’s Mountain View office on 30th January (Monday) to protest Donald Trump’s controversial decision which has banned immigrants from 7 Muslims nations to enter the United States.

A large crowd gathered at the center of Google’s headquarters, many were carrying signs that read "#NoBanNoWall," "All are welcome" and "We are a nation of immigrants."

A Google engineer started the unofficial rally and included several speakers, including co-founder Sergey Brin who is a Russian immigrant.

CEO Sundar Pichai criticized Donald Trump’s decision in a mail to the company’s staff on 27th January saying ban on immigrants from 7 countries affects 187 Google employees, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Nearly thousands of Google employees in San Franciso held a similar march and rally  earlier along the Embarcadero. Similar rallies were held at the Google offices in New York, Seattle and London.

On 28th January Brin joined hundreds of protestors at San Franciso International airport, he said he is an immigrant his family fled Russia in 1979 because of  persecution against Jews.

According to USA today, Google has created a $4 million crisis fund for four organizations that support immigrants: the American Civil Liberties Union, Immigrant Legal Resource Center, International Rescue Committee and UNHCR.

CEOs of other large corporations, including Apple's Tim Cook, Amazon's Jeff Bezos and Starbucks' Howard Schultz, also have been outspoken against Trump's immigration ban.
