Indian-American woman elected as Mayor of Californian city!

Indian-American, Savita Vaidhyanathan, has been named as the the Mayor of the Cupertino city of California.

Savita Vaidhyanathan completed her BA in Maths degree from the Delhi University and went to complete her MBA from San Jose State University. Her mother had come down from India to attend the swearing in ceremony as the Mayor, held last week.

Indian-origin Savita has served as an officer in a commercial bank and a high school Mathematics teacher. She has also worked with non-profit sector organizations.

She has also served as head of a number of Rotary Club fundraisers including the Silicon Valley Fall Festival.

Savita said that, “I’ve had several congratulatory messages saying that I’m the first woman mayor of Indian-origin. Yes, I do take a lot of pride and prestige in that, but I do want to thank the residents of the city of Cupertino that voted me in not looking at ethnicity at all. Thank you for your trust in me, and maybe we did break that silicon ceiling and put a few more cracks in that glass ceiling.”
