Election Day freebies offered around the Bay Area!

As the Americans vote to elect the 45th president of the United States, a number of  restaurants, chains and shops are advertising giveaways to the voters, but don't let those retailers force you to prove you casted the vote.

However, it is not legal. According to the Voting Handbook of the California Secretary of State, "federal law prohibits anything of value being given in exchange for proof of voting."

The Krispy Kreme is offering a free doughnut to all who show your "I voted" sticker at participating shops. You can also get free access to your local Gold's Gym on Election Day after showing a valid "I voted" sticker.

Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream drew criticism in 2008, for a plan to offer ice cream to all those who voted.
