Xiaomi 17 Ultra has come forward with new camera information before its official release, as a high-ranking Xiaomi official shared new details. The updates focus on newly created imaging technology supported by Leica, including adjustments aimed at enhancing photography in low-light conditions and true optical zoom capabilities. Xiaomi has already stated that the phone will launch in China on December 25 and has shown its overall design, available colors, and slim profile. It will have a thickness of 8.29mm and be available in black, green, and white colors. Xiaomi's CEO, Lei Jun, has shared new insights about the camera system of the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Ultra in several posts on Weibo, detailing the latest imaging technology and approach to optical zoom. The device will come with a Leica 1-inch Light and Shadow Master main camera that is based on the new Light and Shadow Hunter 1050L image sensor. This sensor uses lateral overflow integration capacitor (LOFIC) ultra-high dynamic range technology, which is said to enhance dynamic range at the hardware level. This technology is expected to help maintain highlights and shadows accurately in high-contrast, low-light situations while minimizing overexposure.

This same LOFIC technology is also anticipated to enhance video recording quality. Dynamic range improves on each frame, with exposure adjusted for each frame, which will lead to clearer high-dynamic-range video capture during nighttime scenarios. The executive also mentions that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will contain a new Leica-backed 200-megapixel optical zoom telephoto system. The lens is said to allow continuous optical zoom across a focal length range of 75mm to 100mm. It claims to provide full 200-megapixel pictures throughout the zoom range without digital cropping, unlike many other smartphone cameras that have telephoto lenses. The telephoto camera features a Leica APO-certified mobile lens with a dual floating lens group of 3G+5P. The CEO of Xiaomi also noted that the telephoto system in the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Ultra follows the same design principles as traditional camera zoom lenses and represents a next-generation telephoto option for smartphones. This setup provides four focal lengths oriented for portraits using optical zoom, allowing more flexibility for taking portrait photographs.

Xiaomi has confirmed that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be released in China on December 25 at 7pm local time (4:30pm IST). A teaser shows the phone in black and white, with a design that resembles the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and a large rear camera area displaying Leica branding. Xiaomi also introduced a Starry Sky Green color option, which includes ore particles to create a starry look. This version has segmented circular volume buttons and a large 2D flat display with rounded edges. At a thickness of 8.29mm, Xiaomi claims it is the company's slimmest Ultra model to date.
